It’s September. The mornings are crisp, the afternoons are warm, and your glue is acting confused.

One of the most common issues we see during seasonal transitions is Shock Curing (also known as "Blooming"). This is when your beautiful, invisible adhesive bond suddenly turns chalky white or grey right before your eyes. It looks like dandruff or residue, and it is incredibly frustrating to remove.

The good news? It’s not a bad batch of glue. It’s just science. Here is what is happening and how to fix it.

What is Shock Curing?

To understand the fix, you have to understand the chemistry. Cyanoacrylate (the main ingredient in lash glue) cures—or hardens—when it touches moisture.

• Controlled Cure: When the glue pulls moisture slowly from the air (humidity), it hardens clear and strong.

• Shock Cure: When the glue is exposed to too much moisture too fast, the chemical reaction happens violently. The outer layer hardens instantly while the inside stays wet. This rapid reaction causes the white "frosting" look.

Common Causes (And How to Fix Them)

1. Eyes Watering (The #1 Culprit) If a client's eyes water during the service, the salty tears will hit the glue and shock cure it at the outer corners.

• The Fix: Use a piece of foam tape or a folded tissue specifically at the outer corner to catch tears before they touch the extensions.

2. Nano Mister Overload We love Nano Misters for soothing the eyes, but many artists misuse them. If you see water droplets forming on the lashes, you are spraying too much.

• The Fix: Hold your Nano Mister 12 inches away (arm’s length!) and spray for only 15 seconds. You want a fine vapor, not a car wash.

3. Washing Too Soon If you wash the lashes immediately after application without using a Bonder, the water will shock the glue.

• The Fix: Wait 5 full minutes after the last lash is applied before washing or applying heavy liquids.
