Why Your Glue Drop is Getting Stringy (Summer Humidity Tips)
It happens to every lash artist. You sit down to work with your favorite glue, but something feels... off. Maybe the drop is getting gloopy and stringy. Maybe the lashes are slipping and leaning after you place them.
Your first instinct is to blame the manufacturer: "It’s a bad batch!" But 99% of the time, the glue is fine. The problem is the invisible boss of your studio: Humidity.
Cyanoacrylate (lash adhesive) relies on moisture in the air to cure. If that moisture level is off—either too high or too low—your glue will fail. Here is how to diagnose your environment.
Scenario A: Humidity is Too HIGH (>60%)
When there is too much moisture in the air (common in summer or rainy seasons), the glue cures too fast.
-
The Symptoms:
-
Stringy/Gloopy Drop: The outer layer of your glue drop cures before you even dip.
-
Shock Curing: The bond turns white/chalky.
-
Poor Retention: The glue dries before it can wrap around the natural lash.
-
-
The Fix: You need to slow things down.
-
Use a Dehumidifier.
-
Dispense a fresh drop every 15 minutes.
-
Switch to a "Slower" adhesive to compensate for the speed boost.
-
Scenario B: Humidity is Too LOW (<35%)
When the air is dry (common in winter or with AC blasting), the glue cures too slow.
-
The Symptoms:
-
Leaning Lashes: You place a fan, and it flops over because the glue hasn't grabbed yet.
-
Stickies: Because the glue stays wet longer, neighboring lashes stick together.
-
Irritation: Wet glue releases fumes for longer, leading to red eyes.
-
-
The Fix: You need to speed things up.
-
Use a Humidifier near the bed.
-
Use a Nano Mister at the end of the set.
-
Switch to a "Faster" adhesive (like Luxom Hidden Gem) to compensate.
-
Universal Fix #1: Trust Your Hygrometer
You cannot guess humidity by feeling. You need a digital Hygrometer. Pro Tip: Don't rely on the thermostat on the wall across the room. The humidity at the lash bed (where your breath and the client's breath are) is different. Keep a small hygrometer right on your lash cart.
Universal Fix #2: The "Shake" Factor
Whether it's dry or humid, if your ingredients separate, the glue won't work. Hand shaking often isn't enough to mix the stabilizers and cyanoacrylate perfectly.
-
The Tool: Use an Electric Adhesive Shaker. It spins the bottle at high velocity, ensuring the chemical bonds are perfectly mixed every single time.
Universal Fix #3: Keep the Nozzle Clean
Environmental changes can cause the bottle to "burp" or leak if the seal isn't tight.
-
The Tool: Use lint-free Adhesive Nozzle Wipes after every single drop. Never use cotton (it can spark a fire reaction with glue!).
Master Your Environment Don't let the weather dictate your retention. Grab a shaker, fresh wipes, and a backup hygrometer to stay in control no matter what the forecast says.
